HISTORY
Nundah (previously called German Station) is an inner suburb in the city of Brisbane. Nundah was first settled by Europeans in the mid 19th century, although the suburb remained primarily a rural area until it was connected to Brisbane via railway in the 1880s. Originally considered a working-class suburb, the area has become gentrified in recent years and today features a mix of both traditional and modern style.
REAL ESTATE & DESIGN
Many old timber homes in the area have been renovated, while modern townhouses and units have also been built. The medium house price for Nundah in 2004 was just over $350,000
SHOPPING
Nundah retails a traditional “shopping strip” commercial district, centred mainly along the section of Sandgate Road that has been bypassed by the Nundah Bypass. There are plenty of specialty shops as well as Nundah Village shopping centre for those wishing to shop locally; DFO Brisbane Airport is a 10 minute drive, and Westfield Chermside and Centro Toombul are also close by.
SPORTS AND FITNESS
A number of great parks are situated within the area; some of the more popular ones are Albert Bishop Park, Boyd Park and Kalinga Park. Toombul District Cricket Club is located directly across the road from the Nundah Train Station.
DISTANCE FROM CBD & TRANSPORTATION
Approximately 8km North East of Brisbane CBD, Nundah is ideally located for CBD commuters. Both the Nundah Citytrain station and the Toombul Citytrain station are located within the suburb. Both these railway stations are on both the Caboolture Line and the Shorncliffe Line, giving both stations 15 minute frequencies throughout the day seven days a week. There are also many council bus services that run through the area.
FAMOUS LANDMARKS
Nundah has many popular landmarks including Bishop Park, Prince of Wales Hotel, Royal English Hotel, Schulz Canal, Nundah Historic Cemetery, Nundah Railway Station and the Nundah Catholic Church.
RESTAURANTS & CAFES
Nundah Village shopping centre has some popular cafes and many other eateries, pubs and clubs are located within Nundah and nearby in Virginia and Banyo, with Sandgate Road, again, offering the most choice; especially with the closer you head towards Brisbane.
SCHOOLS, EDUCATION & INSTITUTIONS
Nundah State School and Mary Mackillop College are all situated within Nundah. Earnshaw State College is nearby at Banyo, offering non-government schooling, and the Australian Catholic University is a tertiary Campus also located in the neighbouring suburb of Banyo. Nudgee International College and Nudgee Training Institute are situated at nearby Boondall.
